Mike Warburton has won the men’s Winmau Irish Open 7-6 against Irelands Keane Barry.
Mike took out Ciaran Teehan 6-4 in the semi final whilst Keane put away Anthony Allen 6-2 in the final.
Warby fought all the way through and after being 5-5 missed a 142 outshot and Barry cruised in double 16 to go within 1 leg of the title. But Warburton struggled on and got it back to 6-6 and then hit a ton and followed with a 180 in the final leg to get his score down quickly. Barry still had three clear darts at a double tops and tens but Warby kept his cool and came back for 60 and duly took out double 10 with his last dart.
A cool customer is Mike Warburton, no mean feat coming to Ireland and beating the crowd favourite and one of the most in form youth players about. Commiserations to Keane.
Well done Mike Warburton.
